The natives are restless at school. With the warm weather and all the field trips, kids are blowing out and just generally cranky. Of course I am feeling a bit cranky too having to deal with them. I have really had a hard time not just telling the kids to go back to their room! I have to remind myself, tis the time of year and this too shall pass.
Besides the winding down of the school year, I have been pulling extra days at the nursing home in Salem. They hired a full time speech path, but she took the past 2 or 3 weeks off. I am finishing up a 14 day work week. Phew! It is a bit frustrating as she has folks on the case load that perhaps could be better served in a different manner. One guy has been a resident of the long term care part for 6 years and she has him on for cognitive issues. He has dementia and has had several brain surgeries, the last one a few years ago. Future plans for him are that he will stay in this facility where he basically sleeps all day. He gets up for meals and is rather ambulatory. I am not sure that drilling him on sequential steps and problem solving are what he needs. But she left strict orders that no one was to be discharged while she was gone and yet left none of the materials she uses. her goals read will respond to graded exercises...yet she doesn't tell us what is met by that. It is a bit weird and seems like she has purposely padded her case load. Oh well, it gives me about 9 hours a day when I go up. I just feel bad that these folks are getting charged up the wazoo for services that are questionably needed.
I still am unsure what the summer will look like. I am hoping to get a travel assignment as it is nice to get away and be pampered. I love working in various settings and being put up in a hotel with maid service is rather nice too!!
